Creating your Ultimate Dream Team
If you believe that with the right training anyone can excel at any role in your business then stop reading this now. However, if you are more like all other organisations we have ever worked with and you find that no matter what their knowledge and training, some people are better at certain roles than others then read on as this will make a profound difference to your business.
If you look at the top 20% of performers in any role in your organisation and describe them as your ‘talented, above average people’, how different would your company’s results be if all your employees in that role were ‘talented, above average people’? For most companies the answer is anything between 30 and 300% better!
Research shows that typically only a quarter of the people hired or promoted in UK companies fit in our definition of being ‘talented above average people’, so three quarters of all hires and promotions will perform at no better than average!
You would think that the top priority of every company would be employing and retaining the very best talent they could afford but, as Peter Drucker famously said:
‘The ability to make good decisions regarding people represents one of the last reliable sources of competitive advantage, since very few organisations are very good at it.’
Why do so many organisations get this so wrong?
The majority of organisations base their recruiting decisions on the information they are currently able to measure and validate which includes:
Qualifications - GCSE, A’s levels, degree or role specific qualification results
Knowledge – Previous job history
Training – Role specific qualifications
Competencies – Combination of the above demonstrating competence for a role.
Unfortunately, as most have found to their detriment, none of these on their own are an accurate indicator of future performance in your unique environment. With over 30 years of research conducted in some of the world’s most successful organisations we have found that the key discriminating factors are an individual’s talent and their ability to access that talent in the environment you provide.
What is the solution for my organisation?
Even with the most extensive selection process most companies are unable to measure talent and the ability to access the talent’s that are required for success in their unique environment.
At AxiaMetrics, we have developed a tool that allows us to apply a measurable, actionable, scientific approach to recruitment, selection and succession planning – the Axia Talent Benchmark enables you to accurately assess a person’s Talent, Access, Attitude and Skill when applied to a specific job role. The ATB defines a person’s capacity to do a job well and their ability to turn their talents in to strengths and achievements.
The Axia Talent Benchmark is a scientific system that has been developed over the past 30 years and uses personal values data to identify the specific talent of your high achievers and the substantive reasons for the performance differences between them and your less successful groups.
What are the benefits to your organisation?
By creating a bespoke Axia Talent Benchmark for your team you have an accurate and cost effective tool for:
• Recruiting the right people
• Avoiding the costs associated with mis-hiring
• Identifying each individuals talent and how to maximise it as part of your team
• Retaining key contributors to the business
• Succession Planning
No tool or interview process can guarantee 100% success but, as shown in our case study, using the Axia Talent Benchmark will help you eliminate the candidates who would be unable to perform in your specific environment. With the cost of a bad hire estimated at 15 times the first years salary, avoiding one bad hire alone will provide a significant return on investment.
Your recruitment process will be dramatically improved in terms of time to hire, speed to productivity and performance attainment. By eliminating early those who have no chance of thriving in either the role or the organisation, and in highlighting what environment is best to bring out the talent potential of new hires, you will see immediate returns on your investment.
I am interested what is the process ?
Creating a bespoke Axia Talent Benchmark model for your organisation is cost effective and does not require a significant investment of your time. All we need from you is:
• A commitment to want to drive your bottom line by recruiting, training and retaining the most suitable people for your environment.
• Minimum team size of 60 people
• 40% of your team to take the Axia Profile – which can be done on line in under 15 minutes.
We then process and analyse these results to ensure that we can clearly identify the differences between the top and bottom performers. Here is a sample copy of this report:
Can the Axia CMB clearly differentiate between top and bottom performers?
Answer:
Definitely, the graph shows the results generated as part of a talent benchmark process. The Z score is the combination of the Talent, Access, Attitude and Skill when comparing the groups’ top quartile to the bottom quartile, showing a clear distinction between the score levels.

How does this get put in to action?
If there is no clear difference between top and bottom performers then the process ends and we make no charge to you. If there is a clear distinction, we move forward to agreeing the lay-out of your bespoke reports and help you implement use of this in your recruiting and development systems.
The initial data is only the start of the process, as you put more people through and feed back to us on the performance of new hires, we continue to refine your benchmark to ensure it is the most accurate indicator of success for your business.
Who is using the Axia Talent Benchmark?
Hospital Corporation of America, Hilton Hotels and NASA to name but a few, see our case studies for full details of how significant the improvements to bottom line were for them.
